Hi,
I have been enjoying getting to know my new Pinsta Pro.
I decided that the Ex-Russian submarine on the River Medway would be a suitable subject for a few test shots.
Upon developing I have noticed that the bottom left hand corner of all images (see below) are a lot darker than the rest of the image. This corner corresponds to the point at which the chemicals are injected. Is this a known problem or have I been doing something wrong.
Looking forward to an explanation,
Thanks
Pete Hartstone
Perhaps if you can provide some more information on these shots.
Were they all the same exposure, and what time of day did you take them? Image 3 looks later as the tide has gone out. It looks like you took these from the west bank of Medway, just near the pub, so facing due east?
Also some info about the chems, when did you make them up, and did you reuse them? What were the dilutions, the dev/fix times, and temperature?
HDPP is naturally very contrasty, especially with fresh chems, so it could just be variation of light, so that one side is more exposed that the other, and as the developer became exhausted, the amount of development has reduced. The staining on the main part of 3 is probably caused by exhausted developer, perhaps reduced agitation. The bleached area bottom right or 2 and 3 is from residual fix in the system, you can flush that out with a little water, and dry it with a cloth after each shot.
That Foxtrot class submarine makes a great subject. I've been inside that, many a year ago. If those were your first shots, that's quite a good result, especially as a river is a tricky subject due to water movement of the vessels, and reflections.
