I want to add text to some images, by placing a piece of tissue, or transparent material with text written on it directly in front of the photo paper (in camera). I get that the type doesn't need to be 'reversed' since it's 'printing' (being exposed) directly onto the paper.
However, am I correct that if I want the text at the top of the image I need to 'invert' it so it's at the bottom (and upside down), since the pinhole inverts and reverses the image?
Also, how does this process change - if at all - when I'm using 'regular' photo paper or film instead of direct positive paper?
Thanks all. David
Sorry I missed this, while I've been away from the forum. I actually tried exactly this! I used tracing paper and a typewriter to make text on a screen, that was placed in contact with the paper during exposure. (Don't forget to remove it before developing!) Yes, the text will need to be at the bottom of the camera, and upside down, if you want it to be at the top and the correct way up in the result. If making a negative on film or paper, you may choose to have it back to front as well as upside down, such that a contact print will be in the correct orientation.
